Ngorongoro Safari
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area stretches from the Karatu Highlands to the Serengeti and covers an area of around 8300 sq km. Formed by the same immense geological upheavals as the Great Rift Valley, Ngorongoro was once a mountain as high as Kilimanjaro. About 3 million years ago, it blew up, covering the Serengeti in ash. The crater floor sank leaving the rim to form a natural enclosure 2,285 meters high.

While on a Ngorongoro Safari the most amazing experience is viewing the crater for the first time. As your vehicle slowly ascends through mountain forests you will feel it getting colder and colder. Eventually you reach the rim, and dropping sharply off in front of you is Ngorongoro Crater.

Ngorongoro Crater is the best self-contained safari destination in the world. The world's largest unbroken caldera, it is often referred to as the 'Garden of Eden'. The rich pasture and permanent water of the crater floor shelters a large population of animals. In fact, the crater floor is one of the most densely crowded game areas in the world and is home to about 30,000 animals. The open grassland makes it easy to police, so it is also a stronghold for endangered species like black rhino and cheetah.

12 Day Ngorongoro Safari

Day 1 - Arrive in the morning at Jomo Kenyatta Airport and begin your safari by taking a scenic drive to the world famous Masai Mara. Stop enroute at the edge of the Rift Valley escarpment to see the stunning views. You will also see the Maasai people on the way, who live unaffected by modern civilization. Check in at your safari lodge and enjoy a sumptuous buffet lunch. Later in the afternoon, you will be taken for a gamedrive in the park. Overnight at Keekorok Lodge in Masai Mara ,Kenya

Day 2 - Today you will explore the great Masai Mara. After an early breakfast, set off for your gamedrive. You may stop and walk at special sites such as the Mara river where you can see hippo and crocodiles. Return to the lodge where you can enjoy a refreshing swim before your buffet lunch. Later in the afternoon, leave for another gamedrive to explore another part of the reserve. Expert gametracking skills of your tour guide cum driver. Enjoy a buffet dinner at the lodge. Evening entertainment sometimes includes traditional dances and culture talks. Overnight at Keekorok Lodge. [Option of a packed picnic lunch, so that you can be out in the reserve all day, returning to the lodge in the evening- no extra cost.

Day 3 - After early morning gamedrive and breakfast, depart for Lake Naivasha. Arrive in time for lunch. Rest of the afternoon at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Lake Naivasha Simba Lodge.

Day 4 - Depart after breakfast for the scenic Lake Nakuru National Park, a bird and rhino sanctuary, and home to a variety of wildlife. This lake is famous for its pink flamingoes and is a World Heritage Site. Arrive in time for lunch at your lodge. A late afternoon gamedrive will allow you to see the many wild animals in the park. Day 5 - Enjoy your buffet breakfast before leaving for Mountain Lodge, situated at the base of Mount Kenya. This is a Tree lodge for which the Mount Kenya region is famous, and is uniquely Kenyan concept.The lodge has specially constructed viewing bunkers from where you can spot game any time of the day. Arrive at the lodge in time for lunch. Afternoon can be spent viewing the game from a spacious verandah overlooking the waterhole or by going for a forest walk for sighting of game and bird life ( optional). Night game viewing here is a joy-if you are lucky, you could see an elephant coming to feed near the lodge, only metres from you. Dinner and overnight at Mountain Lodge.

Day 6 - After an early buffet breakfast, you will leave for a scenic drive to Nairobi. Arrive Nairobi by lunchtime. Complimentary lunch at Carnivore Restaurant, one of Africa's most famous restaurants. Afternoon can be spent shopping or a visit to Karen Blixen Museum ["Out of Africa fame"] can also be arranged ( optional ). Excellent buffet dinner and Overnight at Jacaranda Hotel.

Day 7 - After an early buffet breakfast, drive to Arusha at 8am. Meet and assist and transfer to Lake Manyara National Park. Arrive at the lodge by lunchtime. Lunch and afternoon gamedrive follows in this very scenic park with fabulous views over the valley to the lake below. Dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara Serena Lodge.

Day 8 - After breakfast, depart for Serengeti Game Reserve. Arrive at the lodge by lunchtime. Lunch and afternoon gamedrive follows. Visit the Ol duvai gorge.This park is essentially similar to Masai Mara, as they both form one eco system. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Serena Lodge.

Day 9 - Full day at Serengeti National Park with morning and afternoon gamedrive. Dinner and overnight at Serengeti Serena Lodge.

Day 10 -After breakfast, depart for Ngorongoro Crater, home to hundreds and thousands of plain animals. Arrive at the lodge by lunchtime. Afternoon gamedrive in the spectacularly formed crater in a 4 wheel drive vehicle follows after lunch. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 11 -Full day at Ngorongoro Conservation Area with picnic lunch.Arrive at the lodge by 6pm. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Serena Lodge.

Day 12 - After breakfast, depart for Arusha. On arrival, take drive Nairobi and transfer to the airport for flight home.
